Why the Democratic Party is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

The action from the DNC to withhold the publication of its internal post-election analysis concerning the last presidential race seems stunning yet not surprising. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body behaves more like a communications shop than a political organization focused on building local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Climate of Conformity

Reluctant to depart from the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has stayed within that legacy all through this past year. Publishing an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether the leadership are interested to promote public discourse regarding the missteps that paved the way for Donald Trump to win re-election. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there are no lessons to glean following the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? If not, it is an unnecessary diversion from our fundamental goal," an explanation reportedly given for withholding the report.

Critical Problems a Report Could Have Examined

A genuine analysis of substance would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. Among them are:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Failing to retain of millions of voters who supported the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive during the tight recent race.
  • A Choice to Run: The stubborn choice by a party leader to stay in the race, coupled with a last-minute step-aside, is seen by some as denying Democratic voters of open primaries.
  • Failing the Working-Class Base: During a time of economic anxiety, the campaign reportedly accommodating corporate donors' interests while failing to confront the impact of profit-seeking.
  • The Gaza Impact: The refusal to adjust a stance concerning a ongoing war reportedly led to losing significant blocs, especially with young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Allegiance: Polling data shows a huge drop-off of support for the party from young voters.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal aligns with a pattern of evading hard truths. This mirrors a situation where nearly all elected Democrat in Congress supported a sitting president's determination to seeking another term until a catastrophic campaign event led to a reversal.

At the same time, a significant majority of the electorate had been continually telling pollsters of their opposition to that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Concerns

A substantive autopsy would also examine questions about where money went, such as the amounts went to party strategists and media firms during an electoral effort which expended a staggering war chest during the general election.

A Underlying Implication

At its core, the suppression of the official autopsy points to a submission to party leaders who engineered a losing electoral effort. The implication to the party's base – which includes millions of dedicated activists – appears to be that they cannot be trusted to understand what the insiders claim to have learned from hundreds of interviews compiled from feedback from all states.

A party unwilling to critically review its own failings finds it difficult to escape the rut that ended up being so helpful to the winning candidate.
